When an application is received, a Welfare Officer will arrange to visit
and assess the applicant's needs.
The Welfare Officer will ensure that all relevant State Benefits have been
applied for and identify what other needs the applicant may have. The Welfare
Officer may refer them to other organisations for specialist help and further
guidance. All applications are presented with recommendations for support to
the Fund's Welfare Committee who meet quarterly.
Welfare officers visit each of their beneficiaries at least once a year in order
to ensure they are getting as much help as they are entitled to. Some
beneficiaries receive more frequent visits depending on the level of support
needed.
Where possible a volunteer visitor will call four times a year. The role of the
visitor is to become a friend to the beneficiary and liaise with welfare team.
